Flash fiction

"Don't answer that." June grabbed Bob's arm and stopped him from leaving the bed. The loud hammering continued. "It's my ex."

"I was just gonna have a word with 'im, tell 'im to leave you alone." Bob was pulling on his jeans.

"You open that door an' he'll 'ammer ya, then he'll 'ammer me."

"Call the cops then." Bob reached for his mobile.

"Don't waste yer time, love. They'll just 'ave a word then let 'im walk. They say they can't touch 'im 'less he does some-ut."

"Can't you get an order?"

"D'you think he'll take notice of a bit o' paper?"

The hammering stopped. Bob chanced a glance out of the window. "He's driving away. Look, why don't you come over to my place, you'll be safe there."

"For how long? You know he'll find me. No, this is my problem. I'll find a way to deal with it."

"Don't do anything stupid." Bob put on his coat and grabbed his overnight bag. "Bye love. Ring me when you're ready to move on."

As Bob's car pulled away June cried a tear. She knew she was trapped. Dale would never allow her to move on as long as he lived. There was only one way to end this. Dale must die.
