Negotiations

“Who are you?”

“Your Fairy God Mother.”

“I don’t think so…”

“Why?”

“My tooth hasn’t fallen out…”

“Of course it did.”

“No, see?”

“Stop lying to me”

“That was last week, remember?”

“I remember last week, and it was on the right… We are on the left side now…”

“Well, I have all my left ones…”

“Let me see…”

“See!”

“That’s gum. I know the difference between a tooth and gum… Why don’t you want me to take it? I have money for you…”

“I don’t want money; I want to keep my tooth…”

“But there’s a new one already started moving up into that spot…”

“I know, I just wanted to keep this one.”

“Why?”

“I want to be a dentist like Mrs. Kent when I grow up! I just thought it would be nice to have one of my baby teeth to show the kids I work on.”

“You want to be a dentist… You’re only six!”

“But every year I’ll get bigger and I just want my baby tooth to show to the kids. Like Mrs. Kent showed me her baby tooth when I was there and she was telling me all about losing my baby teeth.”

“And it was one of her baby teeth?”

“Yes…”

“So, you just want to keep this one so you can be like her?”

“Yes…”

“How about the next one?”

“I only need one…”

“OK… Well, see ya next time!” The Tooth Fairy puffed out of sight.

The next morning: “Alice! Did you forget you were the tooth Fairy last night? Lena still has her tooth! She just showed it to me!” Dad said.

“I dreamed I wasn’t supposed to take it… is she OK?” Mom said totally confused.

“Very happy, actually…” Dad said, also confused.

The Tooth Fairy smiled.
