I finally broke down and cracked this one open to see what all the fuss is about. And I have to admit... I didn't hate it! Although "faerie smut" is not my favorite genre personally, I thought the book was at least well-written, and I really liked all the worldbuilding that the author did for the fae realm. There was a real sense of awe and mystery as Feyre acclimates to her new life in a new part of the world.

How she got to that part of the world is why I don't really care for these kinds of books; it was a very flimsy, "You did something wrong and now I own you so you might as well come live with me for the rest of your life" kind of thing that really made no sense whatsoever. I didn't find the characters that interesting or compelling, and the story itself was kind of "meh," so I don't know that I'll be continuing the series after this one... or delving into any of the other series that this author has written.

Overall, I'd say that if you're a fan of this type of fantasy romance genre (again, "faerie smut" is probably closer to an appropriate label), I can see why this is probably among the best in the genre and it's easy to see why it's so popular. That said, if "faerie smut" isn't your particular cup of tea, this might be a one-and-done, or an avoid-altogether type of situation for you. I'm willing to try anything once (literarily speaking), so this was an interesting experience but not one that I'm specifically looking to repeat.
