Toe in the Water

A tentative blog to test the temperature.

Ten years ago I was writing several blogs on various subjects - F1 motor racing, Music, Classic Cars, Great Romances and, most crushingly, a personal journal that included my thoughts on America, memories of England and Africa, opinion, humour, writing and anything else that occurred. It all became too much (I was attempting to update the journal every day) and I collapsed, exhausted and thoroughly disillusioned in the end.

So this blog is indeed a Toe in the Water, a place to document my thoughts in and on WdC but with a determination not to get sucked into the blog whirlpool ever again. Here's hoping.

I have always been frascinated by Motorcycles, but my ex-wife was so against them that there was no chance of owning one and keeping peace in the house. Once we parted ways, I did buy a small 125 cc Honda Scooter, especially riding to work on the back roads. I loved, it was so easy to get around on. I didn't have a Motorcycle license though, and believe it or not, my conscience took over, and I stopped riding. I finally got my license though, and this time I had a 150 cc Scooter. I loved riding both of them, but now we had no where to store it. It was a bit of a pain to get it out of the garage though, so I sold that one too. I guess riding a 'bike' is not for me. I'd still love to have a Trike though, but again, we have no place to store it, except in the Driveway. Maybe someday. But at 71 now, it's looking less and less likely.

I'm jealous that you've had all these bikes, hell I'm jealous of anyone who has a decent one! Ah to be able to live your life again with minor, or major changes in it.

I know nothing of motorbikes and I am not unhappy that I never rode one when I possibly had the balamce to do so. But car or bike, everyone has owned a clunker or two.

Actually, writing this has made me realise that I should write about the motor bike. It taught me that one of the greatest experiences in life is to ride a really fast bike and that riding a bike is a very good way to get killed. I concentrated on cars after that but still remember that glorious machine.

Enjoyed this very much! I could relate with the Make something forbidden and they are bound to desire it even more. My father was very strict with me (or so it seemed at the time.) I became the black sheep of the family for a while, and then nestled back into favorite daughter mode, according to my younger sisters.

Good old YouTube threw this brief video at me yesterday. It really was very kind of them (if I may refer to the programmers behind the app rather than the app itself) since the video reveals something about the aristocracy that is little understood these days, something that I am trying to reveal in my short stories about Her Grace. It is what I call being truly civilised.
