I'm going to start today to record on a daily basis whatever happens to strike my fancy. So, it is a very cool breezy day. I just posted 5 short book reviews to The Monthly Reading Challenge. I'm suppose to put away some winter wood today from the woodpile outside but I'm playing hookey from work to write so starting this blog will get done.
I'm having a daily fight with a flock of English Sparrows that are trying to take over my barn. They are making a terrible mess so they have to go. I have destroyed several nests so far they don't leave but they get out of the barn when I am around. I'm just starting the fight so I guess I don't know how far I have to go to discourage them.
I'm trying not to spread myself to thin on WDC because I find so many things that are interesting here and I am trying to work on a new story. I really enjoy sitting at my desk with a cup of tea and reading blogs on WDC.

PROMPT: Pets
Do you like pets? Why do you think some of us love pets more than anything? Did you ever have a pet that impacted your life in a big way?
Hi!
Interesting that this prompt should come up. I recently read an article about pets and people.
I have pet parrots, cats, and dogs. Pets have always been a part of my life. A cocker spaniel named rags was my mother's dog when I was 3 years old or so. We took rags with us as a family. Rags died the year I graduated from high school. By then I had a cat and a dog of my own. I took them with me after I married and moved to another state.
My pets are family. I'm always startled when dogs are left in shelters because their owners can no longer care for them. Or when people put a cat out at night and say, "it can take care of itself."
Cats need care. They are a special kind of pet. They need independence as well. People who start and care for cat colonies are special too. A cat colony will keep rodents down to a number that is tolerable. Cats have special abilities in a scientific way. They are able to interact with people to give health benefits. Scientists are learning more about these benefits and some articles are being published that will begin to teach people about how cats benefit human society.
What I read recently was that pet people are often introverted people. What I read also said families will often use pet lovers as scape goats for the family.
In my case I was raised on a farm where there were always some kinds of animals. As a young child I was allowed to have a cat of my own. As long as I kept it in my room. We had a barn, so when I was in school the cat was put out for the day and went to the barn for shelter.
All the creatures I have interacted with have impacted my life in one way or another. They were the mother I never had. They gave me love, kept me warm in a house as a child, that did not have an internal heating system. In some instances, they were my protector against danger. Even horses I kept were my special friends.
Because of my friendship with animals and birds I learned that male humans are jealous of females who keep pets. Sometimes boyfriends, husbands, fathers, uncles, and cousins will take a relationship between a female human and an animal and belittle the relationship or even put the pet in a dangerous situation to break the relationship.
People will often refuse to believe that communication between animals and humans often is stronger than communications between human siblings or children and parents.
Genisis 2:18-20 Animals created as companions to man. The Bible has a lot to say about the relationship between people and animals.
Always treat an animal as if it understands your language. They understand more than people give them credit for most of the time.

What do you look forward to accomplishing in June?
Hi!
I'm trying to write and post on "I Write" Everything was going along O.K.
I knew it would happen someday. Just kept hoping not for a while yet. You see, I have not had a health problem for at least 30 years. Two weeks ago, I caught a cold. Yep. it was a doosy. I am thankful to be recovering. I never take naps. The last two weeks I slept several afternoons surprised even me.
I grew my own plants for my container garden this year. Yesterday I planted containers. Hope they grow since they are planted two weeks late and the weather has not been very warm.
Hoping this cold is not a preview of the rest of 2025.
However, now I am behind by a lot so, in June I will have to make writing and posting for some contests a priority.
Onward toward whatever comes next. Bye for now.

Hi!
Prompt: Describe your favorite room.
In our house it is my bedroom. It is actually two rooms because there is an adjacent balcony. Although I sleep there I also, read there, do my studies there, practice my guitar there, and the balcony has our cat boxes, a view of the front yard and road, in the summer all my plants are there, and I use it as a place to start my garden plants. I also have a rocking chair and a lawn chair there. The balcony has lots of windows so lots of light. I can use my computer or kindle in my bedroom at any time and also view the back yard from one of the two rooms. It is warm in winter and cool in summer. Best of all its mine.
The rest of the house is also mine. However, I share the rest of the house. I do the cleaning in the rest of the house, cook the meals for two.
I pen a journal that has a lot of quotes just for women. One of the quotes says, "every woman should have a place of her own."
Keith and I have been living in the same house for over 50 years. We have always been totally incompatible. This is the way we cope. He has his own room as well. Actually, the balcony has two chairs and is positioned between both our rooms.
There are 3 rooms on the main floor. There is a kitchen, bathroom, and living room with adequate furnishings. We spend most of our days on the main floor, when not doing daily chores.

What is your favorite soup?
I don't especially like soup. But I eat it as a meal used for healthy living. I almost always eat peanut butter crackers with soup. I really like Campbells Chicken noodle soup or tomato. Especially like Vegetable soups of various kinds. Most of the soup I eat is canned. (So to prepare. Use a can opener and read label directions for heating.) I know how to cook soup from scratch but, prefer to not do it.
When I think about it this probably comes from the prevalence of Campbell's soups in my childhood.
Interesting insight: I was eating crackers with peanut butter and jelly on them one day when one of my granddaughters walked in. With a startled look she said. "My other grandmother eats crackers like that too." Maybe a generation thing. You had to be there.
See Ya!

Prompt: If you look the right way, you can see the whole world is a garden. Write about this in your Blog entry today.
HI:
People are drawn to plants. Most large cities have parks, and gardens attached to zoos.
The garden of Eden holds a special place in our imagination. The word Eden is derived from a Jewish word which means delight.
Small towns across the USA plant trees along streets.
At my home I can look out on a forest which always shows the circle of life. There are numerous varieties of plants and trees. All are planted by bees and birds that feast on the seeds. Seeds are scattered by critters and breezes. They grow where they land.
When a tree or bush dies out it usually leaves seedlings in its' wake which grow up, and produce more seeds.
Just walking through a small forest place can be an eye-opening experience if you count species. We have golden rod, lilac, wild strawberries, a beaver dam which contains marsh grasses for deer, wild geese, ducks.
If people do not mow and clear and clean yards or fields this earth garden will just over run the land in a short number of years.
The whole world is a garden we just inhabit small parts of it at various times.

Prompt: Goals for May:
Hi:
I'm giving "I write" a try. Sometimes I can write and sometimes not sure. Anyway, the goals are interesting. I like having something to work toward.
Also, I'm looking for different contests to see what I can find; writing a lot of different things.
My garden will be better this year. I started plants on time and now it is time to put out seedlings. Might even get a start on the new orchard? Not sure about that yet.
May is a transition month. |

Prompt: What are you reading?
HI.
Reading an audio book. I've been reading more audio lately so I can crochet or do puzzles while I work.
Spirit Crossing by William Kent Krueger
Story is about problems on Indian reservations and is a murder mystery.
Presently reading every day from the Jewish Study Bible with Old and New Testament for Jews and Christians. (not audio) It has a lot of history, tells about persecution of Jewish people and Gentiles as Christians. Also, gives information about Jewish Holidays and celebrations. Also, list of extra books and authors, reading that can be done. a lot of in-depth historical info for people who believe in one God. |

What was advice teacher gave you. Did you listen or ignore?
HI.
I guess the best advice was "Never volunteer new information. Just answer the questions as straight forward as possible." Yes. I attempted to accomplish answers in this way. It is essential in Journalism to stick to one subject at a time since there is a lot of information out there that is not essential to explain specific subjects.
I had a writing teacher who once said you should wait 5 or 6 days then reread your work. A lot will change in that time. It is not always possible to do this but, actually helps when writing stories.
Bye for now. |

More people would learn from their mistakes if they weren't so busy denying them. - Harold J. Smith
Hi.
I think this quote brings to much criticism to people. Sometimes it takes years to find out things other people may know and refuse to tell you. Since there is very seldom people around who want to speak plainly about anything that they may have information about in someone's life. Sure, there are mistakes in every person's life. Unless you are close to someone you cannot always tell if something they did was a mistake. I would have to know what kind of mistake this quote is about. Who Harold J. Smith is and what made him say this? There is more here omitted than meets the eye.
My experience is that to speak plainly in concern to someone can get you a nasty behind your back argument. so, most people just don't get involved.
Bye,

What are your plans for this weekend?
HI!
I do not make plans for Easter weekend.
I do not make any specific plans for Easter weekend. I will continue daily to study scripture and pray on my own. I have things written to post on writing.com which will get done, I hope. Then, I have a dinner for the two of us planned for Easter day. To me, it is a Holy weekend.
May God's blessing rest on all of you.
