Use these words in your entry: family, friends, ask, focus, and inspiration.

I’m finding it so hard to focus on anything these last few weeks. I need to write an entry in the Contest Challenge as it my last month of completing another year but I have no inspiration. Family issues have certainly taken a toll on my well being. Our daughter has been in intensive care in hospital after another attempt to leave us and the world. She is very unwell mentally. My friends have been helpful by listening to me without judgement.
All I ask for this Christmas is for my girl to find the peace she deserves and to get well.

Do you make cookies, candy, breads for family and friends during the holidays? If so, what's your favorite to make?
If you don't make treats, what's your favorite to receive?

For so many years I baked for the family but these days, I only cook for myself and my husband. The extended family are so scattered it’s a rare occasion when we manage to wrangle them in to one place. At Christmas especially.
The grandchildren are all adults with children of their own and have their own plans. But this year, on the 21st the majority of the family will come together for our diamond wedding anniversary, so I’ll take advantage and hand out their Christmas gifts at the same time. Four of my adult grandchildren, out of the six, will be there and all six of my great grandchildren. But sadly only one of our children—my daughter—as the other two live in other States.
The food is being catered so there’s no need for any of us to cook.

But back in the days when I did bake, I used to make apple pies, sponge cakes filled with cream and jam and at this time of the year I made fruit mince pies.
If anyone wants to make me something delicious, I love anything with lemon—lemon tart, lemon drizzle cake or my favourite, lemon meringue pie.

Day 4028 December 11th, 2025
ā€œIt is good to love many things, for therein lies the true strength, and whosoever loves much performs much, and can accomplish much, and what is done in love is well done.ā€ ― Vincent Van Gogh

Share with us some things you love, or maybe things you create. Do you agree with Van Gogh there is strength in doing what we love?

There’s pleasure in doing the things you love certainly, but I find I can get more satisfaction out of doing things I don’t particularly enjoy, such as housework or cleaning windows. The enjoyment I get at seeing a clean house or a sparkling window lasts—until it needs doing again!
Some of things I love doing are: my pool exercises at 6am, singing in a choir, having coffee with a friend, chair yoga, getting into bed and reading for an hour before sleep.
I didn’t include writing because I sometimes feel it’s hard work but I like a finished story.

Christmas, children, is not a date. It is a state of mind" and "The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched—they are felt with the heart".
The quote "Christmas, children, is not a date. It is a state of mind" was written by American educator and author Mary Ellen Chase, while the second part, "The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched—they are felt with the heart," is famously by Helen Keller. These are two separate, beloved quotes often shared around the holidays.

I’ve never heard the first quote before but I do agree that how we see Christmas is coloured by one’s state of mind. Of course it is over commercialised, everyone knows that. It’s expensive and puts stress on people to buy and to over commit financially. But for those people who can see beyond the hype and just take the good parts of the season, they have managed to retain a child’s view of Christmas and that’s pretty magical, isn’t it?
I loved Christmas when I was a child and then again when my kids were small but now I must admit to a little bit of scepticism and I’ve certainly lost a bit of the wonder of the season. And yet, yesterday at a local theatre’s pantomime production, seeing the gorgeous faces of those children who were taking part , gave me joy and a bit of the Christmas spirit.
Merry Christmas everyone.

Prompt:
ā€œGod gave us memory so that we might have roses in December.ā€
James M. Barrie
Happy December! What does "roses in December" bring to your mind?

The way I interpret this quote is that exactly like roses in December we remember our youth in old age.

Memories are there for a purpose, much as we might write a journal, we can refer back to a certain date, time or occasion.

When things aren’t going so well in the present we still remember better days. When our short term memories fade, remember those roses—the days of our youth or our children laughing, and happy.

Can you give human qualities to the night. Have fun!

The night has so many faces that it’s hard to trust. Like some people I’ve known throughout my life they show you only what they want you to see, hiding behind a false faƧade.
Sometimes he’s mellow, warm and tender and makes me feel safe, yet underneath his gentle exterior, lies someone I barely recognise.
Where did he go, this sweet-smelling guy, stars twinkling from his eyes? He’s changed, almost before my eyes turned nasty, and threatens revenge before blowing up a storm. He has hidden the moon and stars behind clouds of malevolence. But I know tomorrow he’ll be back, saying sorry for scaring me and that he won’t do it again. That’s the trouble with him, you just never know.

"This Thanksgiving, I'm thankful for so much, including our friendship. Wishing you a wonderful day."

No prompt, if you want to free write and share, feel free to post it on the forum.

Lyn

Hi, Lyn, I don’t celebrate Thanksgiving day because it’s not a traditional holiday in Australia, but I do have lots of reasons to give thanks.
I give thanks for people like you, Lyn, who attempt each day to inspire us to write.
I give thanks for my family, each and everyone brings something different and interesting to my life.
I give thanks my husband and I are celebrating our diamond wedding anniversary on the 22nd of December and that we’re both upright enough to enjoy the day. 60 years!
I give thanks for the many people I meet and with whom I exchange laughs and good times at my various groups, especially my local writer’s group.
I give thanks for WdC and all the stimulation it gives my mind and heart each day.
I give thanks for the wonders of modern medicine, without which my husband and I would probably not be here today.
I even give thanks to technology which often gives me cause to pull my hair out, but without it my life would be harder and less interesting.
I’m going to stop with this list but that’s not to say I’ve run out of reasons to be thankful because I could write a book of reasons.
Now there’s a thought!šŸ¤—

November is almost over, are you ready for December's advertising barrage for the Christmas holiday? I don't know about you but I'm already being bombarded with text messages and emails for black Friday. Do you think the stores will have the revenue boost, they're hoping to get to end 2025?

I wonder where all these businesses get my contact information from.
Yes, I do get sick of these texts and messages.

Black Friday is a clever marketing strategy as it precedes Christmas. It enables or encourages people to purchase actual goods before the holiday instead of purchasing vouchers which many of us do. The reason we buy vouchers is because we know the after-Christmas sales will be on and people can get better for their voucher.

So, it really makes little difference to the businesses bottom line, I don’t think so anyway as it just changes the time we spend our money. After all we can’t spend it twice.

Let this affirmation inspire you-- You can't find happiness in material things. Happiness comes from discovering--- it's your blog, have fun.

I find happiness in all sorts of things. Today for instance, I helped a guy in the supermarket who had a shopping list from his wife. He was dutifully crossing items off the list as he proceeded around the store. He stopped and asked me to help him find a can of three bean mix. I looked but could only find four bean mix. He looked so worried and wondered if his wife would be okay with that. I just told him to tell her it was a Black Friday special bonus bean day! He laughed and it made me happy.
On the way home I saw a lady picking up litter from the side of the road. She already had several bags full, that made me happy and wish I could go and join her, but my very sore back precluded me from helping.

I met a friend for coffee and we laughed a lot, that made me very happy although our conversation was mostly about my failingsšŸ˜‚ but it’s so good to be able to laugh at myself.

This afternoon I saw a mother Magpie helping her baby who when learning to fly had tipped on to its back and couldn’t turn over. I watched as she manoeuvred it on to it front. How wonderful that was. That made me very happy to see a good outcome.

Tomorrow I’ll be very happy to see the podiatrist and get my ingrown toenail fixed because I can’t walk properly at the moment! So happiness comes in many guises.

Megan Markel, the Dutchess of Sussex is the media it seems like every day. If you were to meet her in person and you could ask her questions. What would you ask?

Well, for a start I’m not a fan of Megan Markel.

First I would ask her why, if she despises England and royalty so much, does she still hang on to and use the title of Duchess of Sussex?

Why did she marry into the Royal family and not take up Royal duties? Why didn’t she remain in the UK as she promised after she married? Why didn’t she feel safe? Why did she take Harry away from everything and everyone he has ever known?

Why does she use her new found fame as a royal to promote herself and her many money making projects?

Why has she never brought her children to the UK to meet their grandfather and cousins?
