"Not My Independence Day" The Flag is raised and I’m still in chains They sing their freedom song to silence my pain I hear the thunderous cheer But for me, relief wasn’t near. Their celebrations sets off the flame Yet still I was not invited to the game I tilled their soil, I bore their load, Yet I still cannot see freedom’s road. Their children laugh beneath the sun And where is mine in the fun Fireworks bloom across the night’s sky, While I sit here to die They sip on dreams I’ll never dream This celebration is not as it seems And though I’m told this land is free, No fire burns for me. |
