Tomorrow's Halloween. Does anyone have big plans? I was going to dress as a Scarecrow, sit on our porch like a statue, then grab children as they reached for Candy. I decided I didn't want to scare anyone. Besides, I just had this back surgery. Now if there was a Hospital Bed I could put on the porch.....

I'm just going to be me, but I'll darken under my eyes a bit and wear an old black robe. Uncle Fester rides again!

I'm of the opinion that once we reach a certain age, we no longer need costumes to scare the heck out of kids.

Marking Myself Safe at home after having Same Day Back Surgery today. Amazing really. I checked in at 8am, was taken to OP9 at 10:30, and now home. A few years ago, I'd have been there at least overnight.
Thanks tj says Boris sent me The only thing that's bothering me is my back, near the incision. I'll take it easy for a few days, it will heal. Will always Pray For You and your health issues.
tj says Boris sent me , OMG, that GIF is ADORABLE!!! GrueSum1 , get well soon!!! I hope the pain continues to be so easy and I'm glad you know to be gentle with everything for a while. Back surgery is no joke!!!

I've been thinking about starting another blog. This one would contain recipes of things we've cooked, maybe some we haven't tried yet. Kathy has a much larger list to choose from than I do, but we'll see. We'll see if I start it or not. Here's something I tried today, my first time making something like this. I have to say, this was MUCH better than I thought it would be. Pickled Vegetables Veggies (Can use what you have on hand) 1 head Green Cabbage 3 Carrots, Peeled 4 English Cucumbers 1 Head Cauliflower 2 Bell Peppers (I used small sweet peppers) 6 Cloves Garlic Brine 6 cups filtered water 2 cups white vinegar 1/2 cup sugar 1/2 cup kosher salt 3 Tbsp Peppercorns 6 bay leaves 2 Tbsp Oregano Cut veggies into large pieces and place in a large jar. In a large pot, add all of the ingredients to make the brine. Bring to a boil, then turn off the heat and let the brine cool. Then pour over the veggies in the jar. You can enjoy the veggies immediately or refrigerate and the pickled flavor will intensify over the days. I waited a couple of hours before I just had to try them! Like I said, they are excellent, even if I did forget to add the Cabbage....

That's why I ended up doing my own hair with clippers. I barely had a chance to warm the barber's chair before I was on my way again, £10 lighter.
Grave Pryin' , you should watch videos of them doing military cuts of recruits in basic training. lol
Schnujo's now Cujo -- Run! - That's my approach. A #1 cut every couple of months. For a couple of weeks afterwards I look like knuckle-dragging goon #3 in a Guy Ritchie cockney gangster movie, but at least it doesn't cost me anything!

If you ever get your 'Geek' hat on, you might want to check out this page. This is something I've known of since 1974. Re-reading it today made me just shake my head. Imagine being pinned to the ceiling by an upper shield plug that entered your groin and exited your shoulder! I shuddered reading that, even though I first learned of it in 1974. It's a lengthy read, but interesting. At least for me because of my background.
Also I found this to be an interesting book, if you want to read more about it. https://www.amazon.com/Idaho-Falls-Americas-Nuclear-Accident/dp/1550225626
I lived in Idaho Falls while attending Nuclear Prototype Training. Believe it or not, I still remember our address: 202 N Moonlight, Idaho Falls. The Nuclear Reactor Testing Station was about 45 miles from the nearest city, we rode busses to get there. Driving there was not allowed for students. All students were at either the A1W Plant (USS Enterprise plant, S5G (USS Narwhal plant), or S1W (USS Nautilus plant), all plants being in the same local area (My assigned plant was S1W). Students were assigned at the Navy's discretion. Of course we heard about the SL-1 incident as part of our training. After all, it had happened just 13 years before we were there! I knew about the poor man who was impaled, and the other two. We didn't know details of the accident, other that the reactor had gone Super Critical when a Control Rod became stuck. Yes, a Reactor has to reach super-critical to heat up, but it's a very small amount of super-criticality. And yes, an operating Reactor operates right at Criticality. It might vary between being Critical, Sub-Critical, and very slightly Super-Critical at any given time of operation. It is just how a Reactor operates. Enough with the Nuclear Reactor 101 class/discussion.
