| I come from a country with a standardised national curriculum, which states can add to, but not subtract from, if they wish. While the education system here skews left, and always has (that was fun being a male at university studying teaching when I did it!), that is because universal education is a leftist ideal, not a right one. However, even our right-wing governments do not mess with the system. In fact, the right brought in the national curriculum. We have distinct funding models as well. Teachers are paid well. Schools are funded well. The underlying thing that the left sees is equality across the board. The underlying thing the right sees is that this investment in education will mean better pay later on and so more able to be independent of government handouts. Both are correct. Parents have no say in who the school hires. They have no say in curriculum. Schools have Parent Committees who have a say in the way an individual school is run, but they are more advisory. We do not have a concept like people electing principals or teachers to a school. One parent sits on the selection panel for a new teacher, but that is one of between 3 and 5. And parents in no way influence curriculum. If they do not ant their child to learn about evolution, for example, then they go to one of the very few religious schools who have been given an exemption on that topic. We have no prayer in school. Muslim students who do call to prayer must do it during recess and lunch breaks, not disrupting the class. The only students who get favoured in class are the Indigenous, as our means of counteracting generations of abuse. Does it work? We're in the top 10 for science, English and maths results in the world for primary and secondary education, and number 3 for tertiary. So, yeah - it works. |

I saw that the contest is not listed on "Writing Contests @ Writing.Com"  Have them add it there. The way it's now, barely anyone can know about it. I don't follow that member and your post here will soon travel off the page. |
