Thank you for tagging me to this festive Word Search puzzle!
Staying Out of the Storm:
This was a fabulous video with the coolest animation of Dean Martin singing this famous holiday favorite. I smiled watching it. Very cool! I still have that song rolling around in my head.
Delightful:
This puzzle is based on the lyrics of Let It Snow. There are 20 words to to uncover based on the song. However, those 20 words were woven together in many spots to create a larger tiles for the player to solve. Pretty clever forcing that stretch!
Furthermore:
I love the double word hide within a combo-word. You've got to be pretty sharp to remember that half the word was already uncovered and then go shade it again. The word/s I speak of are : "love me so" and "you love me so." Those little hiders are some of my favorite things!
Parting Thoughts:
I grew up listening to my mother playing Dean Martin record before a party. He set her in the holiday mood, for sure!
I love the fun holiday spirit that sweeps in at this time of year and brings smiles to our faces. The Grinch has long been a character that has been enjoyed throughout the years. Watching the cartoon with the kids, or reading it with them always special times!
Loved even Further:
All the words on the tile to uncover having to do with that rascal! Can't let him get away with the Christmas loot! Think about the heartbroken children!!!
This Word Search has 20 words to uncover all related to the Grinch who stole Christmas. I moved along rather swiftly through the hidden words, uncovering them and envisioning the Grinch's expression while doing so!
Parting Thoughts:
Thank you so much for creating this fun puzzle--and tagging me, sort of. It wasn't a live-tag but I troll the Newsfeed often and saw it!
I was directed to your Word Search puzzle by our friend Ded Moroz I've had it sitting in my open tabs forever, it seems! I had to finish up contest reviewing and judging, so hadn't had a chance to settle in until now.
Celebrating Holidays:
Your puzzle is very interesting and educational as you add what each holiday means and the dates they are celebrated. There's Christmas and Hanukkah, of course, as well as Bodhi Day - Monday, December 8, a Buddhist holiday. Many other days are highlighted that take place during the holiday season.
Furthermore:
Your puzzle consists of 25 words or titles of Holidays. I am getting used to the new format SM made for the Word Search puzzles. It was strange at first not seeing the shaded-in areas and eventual turning green when all the words are uncovered. However, I am liking this new format!
Parting Thoughts:
I moved along fairly quickly uncovering the words. Then it slowed down a bit as my eyes adjusted to the encircling of found words in different colors. Trying to dig out a word hidden within a couple of those takes a while. Thus the puzzle has added a level of difficulty --but I do like that challenge!
The hardest word to solve was "red." I did find a "red" on the tile but it wouldn't stick. I figured there must be two reds on the tile and searched harder. I was right. My persistence found the red that "counted" within other solved parts. It's all good!
Conclusion:
Great Word Search puzzle, Lilli! I had fun playing.
I am reviewing your entry as a judge at "The Bard's Hall Contest" . Thank you for entering our November Prompt: Letter Home from an exchange student.
Initial Thoughts:
If I got a letter from my kid that all this was happening ... I'd be on the next plane out there! I laugh, but it was a very serious subject matter used for the set up. You chose a "Shocking setup in the body of the letter." Indeed shocking-- the student being held by police along with her host family.
Furthermore:
I wondered as I was reading this how on earth it would end up with some humor woven into the story. Mostly I saw the seriousness of it. Plus, with word count closing in near the end, it seems the line: "PS. Just kidding, Mom and Dad! Abdullah and I will be home for the holidays." Is the only bit of humor I found in the story. I guess I would have liked something a little more humor added to the set-up. The genre was to be in the Comedy genre /subgenre.
Parting Thoughts:
This story does have a place showing how certain prejudices can wreck families and communities.
Conclusion:
Unique take on the prompt. Good luck in the contest!
I am reviewing your entry as a judge at "The Bard's Hall Contest" . Thank you for entering our November Prompt: Letter Home from and exchange student.
Initial Thoughts:
"Moldovan adventures" ...What could possibly go wrong for Skylar? You set up a humorous story that pulls the reader in from the start. Skylar, the exchange student trying to sharpen his skills in the kitchen, proves he is definitely not a master in the kitchen, that's for sure.
Furthermore:
No matter how hard Skyler tried, he just messed things up all around him. It got so bad, he was warned not to leave the country until further investigation on his kitchen "accidents." Know the pain of the plantain! Sometimes a banana is really not a banana.
You've threaded the humor all the way through this story keeping the reader wondering; What's next? The ending of course pulled together smoothly with the concluding line.
Parting Thoughts:
You followed the rules...
Wrote a letter home to parents as an exchange student.
Word Count placed at bottom, and is within the rules.
The genre /sub-genre was in comedy.
Conclusion:
This story was a hoot!
Well done. Great use of the prompt!
Good luck in the contest!
I am reviewing your entry as a judge at "The Bard's Hall Contest" . Thank you for entering our November "Letter Home" Prompt.
What I loved:
I loved the humor this family has. The son with his planned marriage and expected gifts to be bestowed upon the couple. Then, the shock-message to his parents that certainly left them breathless.
The added fact that the bride might be "showing" if they wait too long.
Furthermore:
The parents also have some good humor in their arsenal! I think it's hilarious that they came up with a plan to get even with the son's practical joke in front of the congregation!
Parting Thoughts:
I found no errors that I could see. It was a tightly written, micro-fiction story that had an "I gotcha" woven in. I know I got a kick out of it!
You have made a beautiful Word Search puzzle based on Hanukkah. I love that you added that poem on the top of the tile. It really shows the player about the lighting of the candles for eight days and a bit of history woven into it as well. It makes for a welcoming feeling.
Furthermore:
This puzzle contains 25 words related to the celebration of Hanukkah. I worked the puzzle at a good clip and pictured the candle lighting and festivities as I have seen done in person at the Florida community I live in half the year.
It is a beautiful tradition and I'm happy it has a part of traditions here at the clubhouse where community meets.
Parting Thoughts:
You did a beautiful job in the creation of this puzzle. I enjoyed solving it.
It's bright and welcoming. Leger would probably add it to Secret Santa if it covers all those days she's running it.✨
Also, you don't want to set up a candy shop that is too close to Rachel's. Possibly add a pastry shop with Christmas pastries from different nationalities brought to America when they migrated here.
Maybe I'm getting too complicated here. 😂
Perhaps add wreaths, a Christmas tree farm, lot ...chop your own size for whatever prize to win
Conclusion...I say go for it. Get in touch with Leger to be a part of SS.
I came across this story because it showed up on the right side column of the page, "Online Authors."
Initial Thoughts:
I find the life of Anne Boleyn to be fascinating! There have been a few movies or a series with Henry VIII. I know the production had some creative license to make it that much more sensational to capture the viewers' attention so they stick with the series. There was some conflicting scenes with his first wife Catherine. I felt bad for her, though.
Furthermore:
Anne did her darnedest to keep a hold of King Henry. But his deep need to have a son to continue his legacy turned him into a horrid person to the women he had pulled into his lair.
Parting Thoughts:
Your story here does provide information about Anne's background and fear of losing her place by Henry's side. I also felt bad for his first wife, the queen who could not produce a son for him.
The funny thing about it all is that his daughter with Anne actually became the Queen. She of course was Elizabeth I. Amazing twist of fate. With all Henry did, his daughter, not a son, took the crown. I liked that ending!
Conclusion:
Boy, there's certainly a huge list of days celebrated throughout the year! And true, I like the occasional Margarita! ...Or two!
This puzzle contains 25 names of different holidays some celebrated by some. Others by others. It depends on their particular faith or whether the day was important when growing up. There are many more holidays than when I was growing up. That's for sure!
Furthermore:
Holidays include the usual ones we enjoy: Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah, Veterans --which is today, Independence, Memorial, Easter just to name several.
There are also added ones that really aren't a holiday for us, but more for a Groundhog? Poor thing--all that pressure trying to get us an earlier spring.
Earth Day? Nah, not into celebrating the third rock from the sun and all the climate change crap.
Parting Thoughts:
This was a fun puzzle. I'm happy to see Veterans Day on the list on the while I do this puzzle on the exact day we celebrate and thank our veterans for their service to the country.
You did a thorough job finding so many holidays to place on the list.
Conclusion:
Great job! Thank you for tagging me to this Word Search puzzle!
Thank you for tagging me to this Word Search puzzle. You may have figured out I sort of like these things.
Setting The Table:
Love the video included with the puzzle! This is a Word Search celebrating the first Thanksgiving menu. And the turkey indeed was missing on the table back then. I have heard tell that there was indeed lobster and many bivalves native to the area. And chestnuts --yummy. Molasses of course. However, I believe the corn was called maize back then. It was a less modified corn than we have these days.
Feasting Right In:
This puzzle has 22 food items to uncover that were probably served at the first Thanksgiving. So many items that we New Englanders enjoy! Love the shellfish and the cod of course. I found the words simply delicious!
Dessert:
I love that Thanksgiving! It's great to see these Word Searches popping up on the site. Thanksgiving needs the respect it deserves here in the US. Seems like stores make a leap from Halloween into Black Friday. So, it's good to be able to enjoy Thanksgiving before the rush.
Conclusion:
Great puzzle! Great subject matter! Happy Thanksgiving, Steph!
I'm reviewing your entry as a judge at "The Bard's Hall Contest" Thank you for entering October's Cursed Mirror prompt!
Initial Thoughts:
The old Victorian house was inherited by a man who planned on refurbishing it and sell it for a good price tag since it was facing a lake. It was in bad shape and filthy. He hired a few guys to help clean it up.
One helper told him the mirror sucked in another worker. Of course the guy didn't believe it. Everything gets crazier from there!
Furthermore:
The owner soon finds out the mirror does have extraordinary powers when he finds he's been drawn into the glass of the mirror when his hand slipped into its creepy dimension.
The story takes an even weirder turn by that cursed mirror. The owner realizes he's no longer a human, but rather has been turned into a cat.
However, he's not the only cat in that supernatural environment. There are others. And they're being chased relentlessly by a robo-vac! Hey, I always say humor can be infused in any genre.
Parting Thoughts:
It gets pretty paranormal as the couple living within that world are performing an experiment with the cats as subjects. The cats need to be fattened up in order for it to work. It was a little busy, but think I've got this straight.
There was a lot of material to sort through from the guy who couldn't wait to sell the place for over one Mil. The missing worker, life as a cat, robot vacuums on the chase.
Conclusion:
Very unique use of the prompt. It definitely has the eerie feeling as it should.
I am reviewing your entry as a judge at "The Bard's Hall Contest" . Thank you for entering our October contest Something Horror's Cursed Mirror prompt.
Initial Thoughts:
The title. I wish you had a title fitting the creepy story about to be read. Sometimes readers pass on generic titles like "New Entry" (place contest name here.) This is definitely a horror-supernatural story. Pull your readers in. from the start.
Further Thoughts:
Once the first paragraph is read, the reader is of course getting hooked and wants to read more.
Example: "My parents, now conveniently deceased, had filled this Victorian monstrosity with the detritus of lives lived predictably. I had no attachment to the place or to them."
Personally, I wanted this character to get a taste of karma biting back at that point. I don't know the reason she disrespected her parents. There was no blurb explaining why, which makes her unlikable in my mind since all cares about is getting as much money from the house and its contents. There's no remorse or guilt shown because of their deaths and her keeping away from them. That's what's missing. It makes the reader think Lisa is just a selfish woman with no described reason of why she despised her parents. Just a line or two could have explained that. I hadn't set foot inside this mausoleum house since I was eighteen, when my mother/father hit me so hard I fell down the stairs. The abuse would end at that point. I left and never returned.
Additional Thoughts:
Now that I've gotten the above questions out of mind, I can move on to the story. Yes! This is creepy and frightening what the cursed mirror reflected and its grip on the person staring into it. It had wonderful descriptions that pull the reader into the reflection along with Lisa.
"The light in the glass, which had been bright, intensified into a searing white that burned the retina. I gasped, finally feeling a physical tearing sensation in my chest as I realized the reflection was no longer mimicking me. It was consuming the space where I stood." Total creepiness!
Observation:
I had hesitated when I got to this entry because your choice of font size is too small to read on electronic devices. I know I can do the two finger stretch, but it results in an awkward read doing that. I suggest you use larger font to not strain the eyes of your readers. And, I've had cataract surgery on both eyes and see perfectly well.Yet it was an uncomfortable read.
Parting Thoughts:
Great use of the prompt. You pulled the reader into a mirror and held her transfixed on the imagery. Awesome descriptions allowed for that.
You followed the rules. Word Count given and within parameters requested.
The story is in compliance with the prompt that contains a cursed mirror and its reflections.
Conclusion:
The story itself is fascinating that's why the 4.5 rating. The only issues it has are discussed above in this review. It could make a huge difference should you decide to do an edit.
Otherwise, great job! You sent the reader the creeps and the chills. That's horror I can love!
I am reviewing your entry as a judge at "The Bard's Hall Contest" Thank you for entering October's Something Horror, Cursed Mirror prompt.
Initial Thoughts:
The title "Others" made me think back to that creepy movie with Nicole Kidman. Her character with her 2 children, one of whom is "allergic" to sunlight, move into a countryside home during WWI. A ghostly story develops from there.
This story has a teenager who is tired of moving around due to her father's work. She's bored and explores the old Victorian house. She finds herself in the attic facing a mirror with disturbing reflections.
Furthermore:
The scene that develops before her eyes is frightening. She is compelled to respond in order to save the girl in the reflection from harm. The acrobatic scene into the mirror was a little brave, I'm sure. She didn't worry about her ability to return.
Parting Thoughts:
The story does capture the horror of the mirror's reflections. This story has great bones. I just wish it had more meat to devour. There was plenty of Word Count left to build up more creepiness around the mirror before the brave rescue scene.
Conclusion:
Creepy story with some brilliant action from a bored teenager who acted quickly to save another from harm.
I am reviewing your entry as a judge at "The Bard's Hall Contest" . Thank you for entering our October's Something Horror This Way Comes: A cursed mirror prompt.
Initial Thoughts:
"...that beating sound. Soft at first, then quicker, then harder until it beats in time with terror itself." Great way to hook the reader into a story that oozes horror from the very beats of a heart. I like the descriptive lines leading up to the discovery of the mirror.
Further Thoughts:
You did a wonderful job with the buildup to the horrors scene within the cursed mirror. I could almost feel the pull of its power. Making the mirror reflect different images as if falling into a warped dimension where the reflections move forward endlessly ... excellent imagery!
The horror Lyn was put through. Yet, she couldn't break free. She was compelled to lock herself to the mirror. Oh, my!
Her breath was sucked from her body! JR pulled her grasp from the mirror bringing her back to reality! Her breathing started up again.
Parting Thoughts:
Adding the Thump, thump sound repeatedly keeps the hold of the mirror on its victim throughout the story.
I loved the ending. Even though they left the house the mirror's reach could be felt: "Beneath the hush of night, when my heart should be my own…it beats with another’s rhythm."
I was mesmerized by this horror tale. I may not look in a mirror for a week!
Conclusion:
Creepy to the max!
Good job with the prompt!
Good luck in the contest!
Well lookie here! I found your very first Word Search puzzle! How cool is that?
Jumping Right In:
I see you've gotten quite good at these puzzles. You say this was only a ten word search and has been developed more over the years. You have come quite a way. Your puzzles have entertained me.
This puzzle consists of 25 words to uncover having to do with honoring WDC during birthday week 2023. You did this as one of the tasks in Modopoly hosted by iKïyå§amasy-Bah-HumBurger. It involves community things we all know and love here. Games, Merit Badges, writing, challenge and gift points, of course!
Furthermore:
I'm amazed I haven't found this puzzle 'til tonight. I took a chance in scanning the Word Search pages in Browse by Type. It was right there up at the top. Lucky me. I was in the mood for another puzzle to solve after a busy Halloween evening last night.
Parting Thoughts:
My mind went back to the many years of birthday celebrations. This one was fun and pretty quick to solve. Thus, it is a relaxing puzzle to play.
Conclusion:
A word Search Video based on the lyrics of Whatever It Takes. Plus a video accompanying it above the puzzle to keep folks entertained while solving the puzzle.
Playing On:
The words woven within this song are very strong. They invoke many emotions: Vulturous, Breakdown, Martyrdom, End Of Time ---to name a few choice words that describe the lowest form of emotions pertaining to dying, disease letting go, complete destruction. So many meanings!
Playing Out:
This puzzle has 25 words pulled from these Imagine Dragon lyrics. I listened whil I was working on the puzzle. I just love entertainment while I sweat over the tile!
Parting Thoughts:
As usual, your Word Search puzzles reflect your deep admiration for lyrics and music and also ID. They are an amazing group for sure.
I had a good time solving and listening to their song. Thank you for including the video.
A little batty told me there was a Halloween Word Search Puzzle I haven't played yet. So here I am!
The Night Of The Fright:
I love all things Halloween. The children in their costumes walking nervously toward the door as the fog machine blasts a spritz of that smokey substance.
This puzzle has some well-chosen words having to do with Halloween. There's the expected ghosts and ghouls and a witch, too!
Observation:
A couple typos in the spelling of: "WEARWOLF" [Werewolf]. Also, "BROOMSRICK" [Broomstick].
No worries this is a quick fix, so I'm not rating down. I am also guilty of a slippery finger that hits a neighboring letter than the correct one.
Furthermore:
This puzzle has 22 words to uncover. I found the uncovering went along smoothly. Which makes it a very relaxing puzzle for a busy brain. I like the additions of BOGEYMAN, and BROOMStICK. The Bogeyman is often forgotten in these Halloween puzzles. And let's face it...a witch always has her broomstick!
Parting Thoughts:
It's a wonderful time of the year with the upcoming Halloween day and all the fun it brings. I give out full size candy bars, too. It does make my well-decorated house a favorite stop of the night.
Thank you for answering the cry for another Word Search puzzle! You know I love them. They are also a great stress reliever. Why? Because they are relaxing and fun.
Imagining In:
I know how you love ID lyrics and weave them into these puzzles. I bet the lyrics are playing in your mind as you choose the words to put on the puzzle.
Beautiful words of hope such as: Angels, honest, promise, meditation. These show the softer side of vocabulary uses.
Also, there are the words of need. Alone, broken, despair, faceless. Represents those in society who are struggling with life each day.
Imagining On:
This puzzle has 25 words plucked from the lyrics of ID's Eyes Closed. I moved along smoothly as I uncovered each word. I could feel the emotion packed into them.
Parting Thoughts:
Thank you for always coming up with interesting Word Search puzzles having to do with music. I know you love the lyrics in many of your favorite groups. Yes, vocabulary rocks our senses!
Thank you so much for creating this awesome Halloween Word Search!
Spooking Right In:
Oh, my! You've got some great pickings for all things Halloween! I love that you have threaded-in some Dark Shadows and Stephen King. The Shining is a great movie to watch during Spooktober.
Spooking On:
This puzzle has 25 words/titles/names to uncover on the tile. Edgar Allan Poe and his Raven are there. Also, Hocus Pokus, Carrie, Mummy... horror flicks so popular amongst we horror lovers!
There are the usual frights for Halloween decor, skeleton and black cats. A wicked witch, too! But, I loved that Angelique and Barnabas are included in the puzzle. As you know, I am also a Dark Shadows fan.
Parting Thoughts:
This was such a fun and festive Word Search puzzle that enhances this time of year as we countdown to Halloween! I enjoyed uncovering each and every word on the tile. I also pictured the movies presented in my mind. It is indeed the season of the creeps and witches too!
Conclusion:
Great job! Thank you so much for tagging me to this link. You know I love it!
Thank you so much for creating this Word Search puzzle of Horrors, and tagging me!!! Creeping In:
Oh, yes! This puzzle is the epitome of Spooktober Horrors! Everything leading up to Halloween is so festive and lots of fun. There are a multitude of horror movies to watch. There are Jack-O-Lanterns to carve, and kids to scare! Okay, okay, I'm not into scaring young children. But, those older ones? ...
Creeping On:
This WS puzzle has 25 words/phrases to uncover on the tile having to do with scary stuff. Things like: Headless Horseman, Quivering Mass, Squeaking Door, to name a few really good ones!
Parting Thoughts:
I must admit, I let out a short, evil laugh whilst working on this puzzle. I didn't really, but it sounded good! It's just another mystery of the puzzle to solve.
You did a fabulous job of gathering words for this season of everything horror/scary. I worked through it at a steady pace. I look forward to Halloween and seeing all the kiddies in their costumes. It's a wonderful time of autumn!
Thank you for creating this perfect for the season Word Search puzzle!
Spooking Right In:
A quick look at the list showed me some familiar Halloween Handles displayed all over the site. Yes, it is the time of the year for all things spooky, creepy and crawly.
I love the giphy used above the puzzle. It sets the mood handily.
Spooking More:
This puzzle consists of 21 words to uncover all having to do with Samhain. One related handle jumps out at me..."Kiyasamhain." The one where Samhain is in the handle. I also see nosferette, jeffolantern. gruesome and spudyspecter, giant phantom jelly, to name several on-site Halloween Handles making this time of year super festive.
Observation:
I noticed you have the Intro set on "Non-E." I see nothing in the title or brief description to place it in that setting. So, if you want more peeps to see it and play it, I suggest moving it to "E."
Parting Thoughts:
I really enjoyed spotting all the spooky words, fabulous handles and seasonal fun on the list of this Word Search puzzle where the macabre and the boogyman, boogy on down!
I moved along at a good rate exposing all those names and words. It's fun and relaxing, too. More fun for me, but good for you!
Conclusion:
Great job! Thanks again for tagging me to this link. You know I love these things!
I've finally called my whistling witches back home!
Jumping Right In:
This Word Search puzzle is from One Republic song titles. They are taken from a wide time span of deep cuts and singles. So we are informed in the brief description. I have taken a listen to a bit of these. I'm not a follower of them being introduced to them by you during Blog Month at The Bard's Hall.
Furthermore:
It's taken me forever, it seems, to get this puzzle done! It's just that I've had to start this over a few times due to Windows Update crap, restarting and emptying out the progress I've made! This time, I thought I'd sort of sneak up on it. You know, whistle at it as I saw it waiting in my open tabs. Peek into the tab further to see if those answers I had already completed would magically appear. Yeah, that didn't happen!
I promised myself I'd get this puzzle done and the review sent out before another unfortunate missing tab event happened.
Parting Thoughts:
This puzzle contains 25 titles to uncover. I can't say it was a super fast completion, as I had a few I chased around the tile for awhile. Thankfully, the longer titles popped out faster for the most part.
All-in, all ... I felt joy when I saw the tile turn green!
Conclusion:
Good job keeping me busy as this clung to my open tabs since September 27th!
I found this Word Search puzzle in "Browse By Type." This one goes way back to March, so somehow I missed it back then.
Driving Right In:
This is a puzzle about random automobile models. It's a full puzzle containing 25 names of different types of cars. I even found my Ruby's type which is an XC90. That old girl is twenty years old, now.
Furthermore:
I was able to get through the puzzle at a good clip. It was those models with numbers that help a bit. Numbers tend to jump right out at the player: F150, F250, F350 and of course my Volvo model, XC90.
Parting Thoughts:
It was fun finding different car models. A Silverado, (I had a Suburban when my kids were little.) Blazer, my husband's vehicle way back when. I guess I'm just a SUV girl at heart.
Conclusion:
A fun and fast puzzle to play. It relaxes a busy brain and brings images of cars of days gone by since my Ruby is the car I love and want to keep.
