A nostalgic poem highlighting a child's imagination. For the Traditional Poetry Contest.

She seemed a kind lady;
grey hair bunched on top.
She stood her ground,
beside the green grocer's shop.

I paid little attention;
the bike flew right past.
My imaginative world
was going too fast.

But no sooner had I left,
I realized I saw,
a beautiful flower
the old lady wore.

I turned off my spacecraft
and peddled instead.
Bright yellow daffodils;
visions in my head.

She held out a bunch,
had more in a pail.
I counted my coins;
she made a great sale.

I felt a great peace,
enthralled by the land,
a glimpse of it's beauty,
I held in my hand.

I sat on the grass,
feeling life's love,
given at will
from someone above.

I cherished the flowers;
a tear caught my eye,
for I knew that soon
they would wither and die.

I couldn't hold on,
so I let them go free;
climbed back on my spaceship,
imaginings to be.
