Two unlikely friends find solace in each others presence. |
My Sister's Best Friend The gaze he held was one that knew, a change had bestowed upon us two. The pain and loss; the tear’s I’d cried, were reflected there in the gelding’s eyes. We greeted each other with caution and care, as I gently groomed the horse’s fine hair. I had never known my sister’s friend. A secret she’d kept right to the end. It was shock at first, when the Will was read, and daunting questions filled my head. How could I take the responsibility and time for a creature so huge; who now was mine. He seemed to know the struggle I met, My sister’s best friend was no simple pet. He galloped the length of the pasture and back, and walked very slowly towards the tack. With a noise like the sound of a whispering soul, He pawed at the ground till he made quite a hole, He nuzzled the saddle and beconned to me, as though he would teach me how to be free. Hesitantly I saddled the horse. A bewildering task, but he stood the course. Climbing upon his majestic frame, I knew I could never look back again. Thoughts of selling this beautiful find, were quickly swept away from my mind. We have a bond, like no other before, Our mutual loss sits at its core. We ride into the wind and against the storm, Happy together, we’re no longer forlorn. My sister’s best friend in such a short time, has filled my heart, and now become mine. Poem 32 lines.
