Poem for the Taboo Words Contest - Prompt: Feeding The Ducks
Forbidden words: feed, ducks, drakes, beaks, bread, quack
(23 lines)
Paddle
through the
muck waiting for a
splash.
Who
knows if
this meal may
just be our last?
“They’ve got too fat!” the keepers
spat, and now we do grow weary. The mothers
tisk and scold their brood, “Watch your sandwich, deary!”
Fish are nice, but soon there’ll be ice, and meals could be quite sparse.
Therefore we hope that you’ll take note and end this lettuce farce.
We cry and wail to no avail, as you all go walking by. It seems you do not comp-
rehend that surely we will die! We’ve grown quite plump, and we’ll admit: we have seen
thinner days. But surely, YOU know (each visit, you show) it’s hard to change one’s ways. We’ll waste away and soon
you’ll say, “We’re
sorry! Here’s
a loaf!”
But much
too late will your
efforts be, and won’t you
be an oaf?
