Nothing Is Impossible

Bonis looked across at Anak. He could see her trembling on the edge. He reached over and grasped her hand.

“This isn’t possible,” she gasped.

“I believe it is! Do you believe in me?”

She nodded mutely and squeezed his hand.

“One, two, three,” he chanted. On three, they both jumped. The last portal to freedom closed behind them and they continued to fall.

“Did you ever feel like Alice falling down the rabbit hole?” Anak asked trying to relax with a joke.

“Not before today, but if we end up where she did, we’ll find a way out,” Bonis reassured her, and they both giggled nervously.

Still, they continued to fall. Just when they thought they would never land, they did. Incredibly, the landing was soft, cushy and pleasant.

“Welcome to Freedom’s Tenth Gate. You are our last arrivals. Have you chosen your new names?”

“Banak.” The gatekeeper wrote it down.

“And you?”

“Aanis,” he said and saw it written down.

“Take these packs of necessities for your trip with our compliments.”

“Thank you,” the pair said together.

“Open the gate and start your journey,” the keeper said with smile.

Together, Banak and Aanis pushed on the heavy bronze gate. Slowly, it opened. The pair of lovers stepped through.

Sand far as the eye could see, but what sand! Swirled with rainbow colors, it shifted constantly under a warm, but refreshing breeze. They stepped carefully together and lightly.

“It’s what walking on a cloud must feel like!” Banak said.

“Which way will we go?” Aanis asked her.

“East.”

“Why?”

“I’ve never been East, and I’ve always wanted to,” she said simply.

Her sweetheart nodded as if he completely understood, as he gently turned her in the right direction. The suns rose as they moved toward them.
