Dads Party Mix - Comfort Food

Recipe for Chex Party Mix and a story to go along with it

1 Jar of Peanuts
1 Box of Wheat Chex
1 Box of Rice Chex
1 Box of Corn Chex
1 Box of Cheerios
1 bags of thin pretzel sticks (optional)
2 or 3 Bags of Gardetto's Original Recipe Snack Mix (optional)
2 Cups Salad Oil
1 Tablespoon Seasoned Salt
1 Tablespoon Garlic Salt or Garlic Powder (your choice)
2 Tablespoons Worcestershire Sauce

Combine the peanuts, cereals, pretzels and Gardetto and pour into a roasting pan.

Mix the Worcestershire sauce, Seasoned Salt and Garlic Salt/Powder into the oil and stir well until well combined. Pour the oil over the dry ingredients evenly. Roast at 250 degrees for 2 hours, stirring every 15 minutes.

This recipe makes a lot. I recommend storing it in sandwich baggies, quart baggies, or gallon baggies once it has cooled.


My family has made this recipe as long as I can remember. It has always been the treat for me, especially once I got old enough to help make it. I got to pour the cereal into the roaster so Grandma (my Mom) could mix it. I'm sure Aunt and Uncle (my sister and brother) got to help, too. I just don't remember.

During my junior year in college, I brought a couple baggies bank to campus with me. Naturally, I shared it with my roommate (whose name was Roommate). The next time Grandma and Grandpa visited me, the very first thing Roommate said to them way, "Mrs. Grandma! You have got to give me the recipe for that snack mix! It is delicious!"

And that is how I learned how hard it is to get a recipe from Grandma. You've gotta to ask.
