Artificial Intelligence as Artist?

When I draw from 19th-century mugshot photos, I think about who the prisoners were at their core—hardened criminals? Hungry innocents who stole bread? Larcenous miscreants? Many look like deer caught in the headlights, others mock the photographer, and some exude shame. I can't see AI catching subtleties revealed by the muscle tension around the mouth, the squint in the eyes, or the chin angle.
