Sounds Good “Jeff, you left your coat in the kitchen!” Mom called. Jeff ran in, “Sorry! I was in a hurry.” “OK. Don’t do that again.” A short while later… “Jeff!! Turn down that volume! Everybody on the block can hear it!” “Sorry! The puppets on the TV were whispering and I couldn’t hear what they were saying.” Jeff yelled back. “Well turn it down! And don’t do that again!” “OK!” The next hour was peaceful. Jeff watched his show then went to the kitchen for food. Deciding on peanut butter and jelly, he grabbed the bread. One regular piece and one end piece left. “Mom! I’m taking the last of the bread, do we have anymore?” “We should have some in the freezer…” “No, I took it out, this was the last one in there!” “I’ll go to the store after the laundry. You should have told me it was the last one. You, and your father, eat a lot of sandwiches!” “Sorry Mum, I forgot…” “It’s OK, I have other stuff to get. But, don’t do it again!” Jeff walked into the laundry room eating his sandwich. “Do you know how many things I’m not supposed to do again?” he said. “What are you talking about?” “Every time I screw up; you always tell me not to do it again.” “I do?” “Yeah, like just today you told me not to forget to make my bed, not to leave the toothpaste tube’s cap off, not to leave my coat in the kitchen, and not to forget to tell you when I take the last loaf of bread out of the freezer…” Mom laughed, “Well! How about a hug? And I promise you, you can do that again, every day for the rest of your life!” “That sounds good!” |
