Elainia feelis a storm coming on. 300 words |
"There's a storm coming,"commented Elainia. "And how would you know that, missy?" growled Captain Harry. "I can smell it." "All I can smell is that perfume you're doused in! Move downwind," Elainia stiffened, then walked as far aft as she could. She was not a good sailor, but being furious helped with that. She leaned against the rail and scanned the skies. "No clouds, no strong winds. it's coming!" Just as she said that, the skies darkened with Rain Ravens. A mighty flock of them. They began to attack the ship's sails. When their razor beaks hit the canvas, it began to tear like wet paper. Instead of flying away, each bird became a gush of water that hit like barrel of water on the deck. Elainia tried to push them back but there were too many for one inexperienced mage. "Man the sheets!" bellowed Captain Harry. Swarms of seamen raced up the masts, furling the sails. As they did so, Elainia felt the ship turn for what she hoped was landfall. "Where are you going?" she asked the captain when she got to him. "Shelter, whether it pleases you or not." "Good," she said. "So glad you appove, yer highness." Soon they were safe in a small cove and Harry turned on her. "'Tis you that has brought this upon my ship," he yelled. She faced him, hands on hips; belligerence personified. "I did not!" "Then how did you know this was coming?" "There are many kinds of storms in this world, not all of them are familiar," she replied. "You will exit my ship right now, I don't need your bad luck anymore!" Elainia gathered her things from her stateroom and got off. "Where do I go now that they know where I am?" she asked herself. |
