What is in a name?
To some it represents fame
For a child, it is mom, dad
To a cop, it is officer or sir.
Names identify places
To put claim on our spaces
Over claiming space can be sad
Hoarding, its name, can occur.
From town to town
We hear those sounds
LA, Huston, Rome or Trinidad
Why Trinidad?, not sure.
They say, "What's in a name?"
I say everything
Ownership, belonging, Identity, I am glad
Name given at birth; most endure.
From birth, to marriage, to death
We are called something from the beginning of breath
Newborn, boy, girl, stillborn - that's sad
You can bet there will be one, for sure.
After the name, what comes next is somber
We are given a long, forever invasive number
Most will commit to memory like a good lad
To have and to present wherever you may tour.
Welcome to the tracking of the human race.
We are tracked by number; sometimes by face.
And fingerprinting, don't you think that is rad?
Does all this make you feel secure?
