Dreaming of the special is normal — dreaming of the everyday is special.

The first light peeks through the curtains, its warm rays gently nudging me awake.
I breathe deeply and take in the moment, feeling the covers rustle as you begin to stir.
The very thought that you are beside me calms my spirit and energizes my soul.
This blessing was the one I'd waited my whole life to experience — the love I'd prayed for.

Still sleepy, you reach for my hand and lace your strong fingers around mine.
I love these hands, I muse, tightening my grasp around yours.
Laying in dawn's peaceful silence, you turn and melt me with your smile.
I lose myself in your deep blue eyes and find everything I ever needed.

You pull me close and wrap your arms around me — I feel your chest against mine.
Legs interlaced, skin on skin, we caress each other without uttering a word.
We need only eye contact to speak — our hearts sing this song in harmony.
With a tender kiss on my forehead, and then my lips, it's time to begin our day.

Pajama-clad, you prepare your special coffee, and I work on breakfast.
At the kitchen table we chat about the day's plans, work, and what we'll have for dinner.
To our office spaces we resign, eight hours of the grind until we return to the table,
Commiserating about the joys of corporate life over a Coke and a sparkling water.

I let the pot boil over, and you forgot you'd used all the stovetop cleaner.
Pissed at each other, we take a deep breath and laugh at our screwups —
Because I forgot to put the leftovers in the trash last week
And your socks miraculously missed the hamper for the 23rd time.

At dinner you share your retirement dreams — travelling to anywhere.
Going to concerts, seeing plays, and eating the best food.
Hiding away in a mountain cabin or a sun-drenched beach house,
Making love and memories of this love we both waited a lifetime for.

The orange and pink sunset glimmers on the horizon as the tree frogs sing.
Sipping on a cold drink, we watch the night arrive and the stars appear.
You daydream while we're talking, and I tap you on the arm to bring you back.
I can't get mad, because the hamster in my brain distracts me all the time.

Bedtime has come — we fall into bed, and I feel your body against my back.
Your hand is on my stomach and this time I lace my fingers through yours.
The reality of life isn't always sunshine and rainbows — it can be really hard.
But it's also worth every sweet moment when we both try our very best.

He was worth every moment I waited, I reflect as you kiss my shoulders.
You whisper, "I love you forever" in my ear and I turn my body to you.
I gaze into those blue eyes and kiss your sweet lips, smiling as you look at me.
"I've loved you forever," I respond, and bury my head in your chest to fall asleep.
