Word: Happiness

Happiness

What's happiness?

I've lived so long without it, I no longer know.

Some mornings I glimpse it, but it soon drifts away, drowned by the darkness that presses and rends, lost in the maze my mind twists and bends.

Beaches and gardens, and pretty girls; Sunlight and motion, should all joy reveal, but I'm blank, flat, unable to care. Happiness, for me, just isn't there.

Maybe one day, but I shan't hold my breath - 'til a neighbour's hello don't feel like a test. I'll tally each moment, 'til I am at ease. Happiness my freedom, to do as I please.
