Yearning

100 word Drabble. Using foreign word: saudade. It means yearning in Portuguese

Madelena cradled her newborn baby, although her thoughts were faraway with her family in Lisbon. She remembered the day ten years ago when she’d waved goodbye to her parents at the departure gate with barely a backward glance.

Working in a bar in Sydney she’d met her bronzed Aussie man and never went back.

Despite the weekly phone calls and FaceTime, she desperately missed home, her parents and even her brother. Tears fell as she wished with all her heart her mum was with her. The baby in her arms cried and the saudade for her family almost overwhelmed her.
