Flash Fiction

The Gift

Sitting at my desk hoping what to write would come to mind. It’s been an hour, and so far all I have is a blank page glaring at me. I swear, grinning at me… Like it knew it would stay blank as long as it was in front of me.

An essay, about a stone, a chain and a desk. A stone and a chain could be anywhere, inside or out, but a desk outside? Iffy. So, it’s probably inside, somewhere… where? More importantly why?

Well! I could hook the stone to the chain, a necklace? People often talk about jewels as stones. Diamonds! Too bad it’s a chain; it could have been an engagement ring! So sweet. They don’t do engagement necklaces… But… The guy could be hiding the ring on a chain, on his keychain! …This is going nowhere. And where’s the desk?

Harold sat at his desk, pen in hand but nothing coming to mind. He wanted to fix things; needed to. He couldn’t lose Anna! How could he tell Anna it was all a stupid mistake without losing her. She was so angry! It was just one little kiss. The guys said they would bet he couldn’t do it. Money! He could finally afford the neckess Anna loved, that perfect stone on the silver chain.

Ok, that was about as worthless as it could get. Though it did use all the required words. Maybe if he wanted to take Anna to a movie? Worse!

I admit I shouldn’t eat so much before bed (those cookies were wonderful!) A decent night’s sleep helps with the writing… Well, at the very least there will be other people with great stories that will win over me! It’s a gift, from me! One crappy story! I feel so much better!!!
