Twin witches give out treats and request tricks.

Halloween Chant

Marvelle and Carvelle were twin witches. They usually stayed home to give sweet treats to the little ones who came to their door. They were particularly partial to those who dressed as witches or warlocks.
“Trick or treat,” they heard over and over. They took turns answering the door. When Marvelle answered, she praised the costumes and commiserated with the adults that were with them. As for Carvelle…

“I’ll take a trick, give it your best shot,” she would say, then wait to see what they came up with. Some of the visitors were quite creative. One blasted her with silly string and another threw glitter on her.
When she refused them treats, Marvelle would step in and give extras as an apology.

“I don’t know why you do this every year,” Marvelle complained.
“The chant gives you a choice, I want tricks!”
“You do know it’s only words? It’s clear they would rather have sweets.”
“Then why don’t they just say, ‘Treats, Treats?”
“That would spoil the fun!”

“Not for me, I prefer tricks.”
“Since when, last time I played a trick on you, you didn’t speak to me for days. Heaven!”
“You’re different. I won’t see these young scamps for another year. By then I’ll have forgotten about it.”
“True, you are getting forgetful in your declining years.”
“Declining? Did you say declining?” scoffed Carvella, advancing on her sister. Soon a magic duel sprang up between them. Every time one of them answered the door, they were a different animal, person or thing.

The little visitors loved it and the treats they got. Soon it was too late for them to be out, but the duel continued until Carvelle cried ‘foul’. They were so exhausted they went to bed in the characters they transformed into last.
