Three older ladies prove you're never too old. 300-word flash

Too Old When You Stop

Edna, Thelma and Viola looked down.
“I’m too old for this,” Thelma said. Viola nodded. Edna looked at her two friends.
“I brought the equipment and thick cushions for the tender parts; who’s with me?”
The other two women checked things over carefully. They got in and pushed off. Halfway down, Thelma was whooping like a kid. Viola couldn’t seem to stop smiling. As for Edna, she had to save her breath.
When they got to the bottom, the three got up.
“Who wants to go again?”
“It’s a long trip back up, don’t you think?”
“We can help you out there,” said three voices. The women turned to see teenaged boys grinning at them.
“We’ll take the sleds and you three can take the lift,” one explained.
“We didn’t know they had a lift at a sledding hill!”
“Meet you up there, ladies,” the boys said and started up. The women got on the lift and travelled back to the top in style. Unbelievably, the teens beat them to the top. They set the ladies up to go again.
“Race you,” one yelled as they pushed them off down the hill.
Knowing they should beat them, the three friends did what they could to go even faster. When they reached the bottom, the teens were already there.
“Let’s go again!” Viola shouted.
“That’s enough for me. Remember it’s our first time doing this in goodness knows how long!”
“I’ll be a week with liniment and hot packs, but after that I’m game,” Thelma said.
“You ladies are awesome! It was nice meeting you,” the teens said. Edna handed the boys coupons for hot drinks and hot dogs at the Chalet. They thanked her and left. Edna called an Uber, and the women headed home.
