Building a gingerbread house from scratch,
requires gingerbread walls and roof,
with gingerbread soldiers guarding the castle.
Staunch gingerbread men with candy cane swords.
There's a gingerbread foot that's a little bit long--
surely I can nibble on it to make it even,
but no, now one's foot is an inch too short.
Oh dear.

The chimney is lop-sided, a nibble necessary.
Don't really need a door, do we?
It can be open to welcome
more gingerbread inside.
Except there isn't room in the room
for them all to fit.
Two extra.
Oh dear.

Gumdrops decorate the roof,
icing and sprinkles dot the walls.
The gingerbread men are fencing
with candy cane swords.
Admirable skill,except
one broke his arm in the fray.
Kinda wanted to eat that one anyway.
Oh dear.

Retrieving one from inside,
he's been promoted to guard,
not the castle per se
but the builder who is
still hungry, wanting
just one more nibble
before the cookie monster decimates.
Oh dear.

It's complete although
a tad lopsided. The chimney leans,
and the staunch soldiers
smiles intact,
sit midst cookie crumbs
having lost limbs to battle.
My tummy aches from too many cookies.
Oh dear.
