A practice session for The Poet's Place Cafe

Off to work this morning
Normal morning routine
Typical subjects seen are boring
So I took a right instead of a left.
I have sick leave why not use it.
After all I am sick of this routine
Old highway 52, I saw hang gliders soaring
Maybe I can take a ride.

The sky was a beautiful aqua blue
I was excited by this road; I took the one less traveled by
I had to slow down to avoid a bird that just flew
A beautiful eagle, magnificent sight
O' what a thrilling morning this has become
I needed a break, my routine has gone by
In my daily life, board I was, I had no clue
So much fun, I became my own personal guide.

The scenery was out of a picture book
Green meadow dusted with golden California Poppies
It is as if I fell into a picture from years back that I took
Rolling hills in a distance brought back my childhood
I felt I had taken a road back to home
My dog Blackie chasing cattle as I go to pick those golden Poppies
So glad I kicked that old routine to look
And that has made all the difference.
