What am I supposed to do?

my confusion about politics presented to me as a 16 y/o who can't do anything about it

My family and i used to watch the news every morning before school while we'd eat breakfast, likely to get the rundown on the weather but we continued to watch even after. We no longer do so, i get my news from classmates and social media. just 30 minutes ago i saw an Instagram reel of a woman stating that next week, no specific day, something was possibly going to be passed basically eliminating womans voting. To paraphrase, the lady basically said to vote as a woman you'd need two forms of identification, not including license, with matching last names, to be able to vote. That makes voting for married women, army wives, and lower-class women very difficult. Obviously i was startled, i can't even drive yet and already i can't even vote? i don't have the money to buy a passport! What will my mom do? I mean she changed her last name when she got married, she'll either have to change it back or have to renew her birth certificate, that's expensive enough not accounting for the passports we don't have! I checked the comments; this reel was eight weeks old. I don't know about you, but this was the first i heard of this. Did it even pass? Can I even vote? A lot of people would take this reel at face value, not looking into it deeper. I personally haven't looked it up either. I mean what do I even look up? I just thought this should be discussed for a multitude of reasons.

A) Was this fear mongering? was this random lady just trying to scare me? Why would she? I already don't agree with the people who would make women voting difficult, i don't need to be scared into it!

B) Why wasn't this talked about more? I mean this is BIG! You mean to tell me 50% of the population may not be able to vote and we AREN'T talking about it?

It's scary, and we need to be talking about whatever just happened, but I don't even know what happened. I can feel something about that reel was wrong. It's wrong that it came to me so late, and it's wrong something like reinstating women's suffrage is happening, but IS that happening? What do I believe? Where do I go with these confusions?
