A bold poem on settling,self-worth and rising when you realize you deserved more.

By JanneyWrites

The bar was too low,
I didn't crawl-I folded.
Took scraps and called it supper,
While my fire sat there, smoldered.

I laughed at hollow gestures,
Held silence like a prize.
Called absence independence,
Fed myself sweet little lies.

You showed up when it pleased you,
A king without a crown.
I danced around your silence,
Too scared to let you down.

My love was a full banquet,
Yours, a paper plate.
But still, I made excuses,
Like crumbs could carry weight.

I shrank so you could tower,
Dimmed so you could glow.
But stars don't beg for notice,
And deep down, I did know.

Now I rise with quiet fury,
No tears, no second show.
Because the truth hit like a whisper:
The bar was just too low.
