There's more than one way to skin a hard drive

The afternoon had been a long one. When Dwayne and Posey called me, I knew the proverbial effluent had impacted the air circulator.

"Guys, I'm in HVAC now, I haven't done this stuff in ages!"

"Come on, Fred, you were the best at this stuff!" Dwayne begged.

"Microchips fear you, man..." Posey cajoled.

"Alright, fine! Look, I'll— I'll take a look at, but you two gorillas stay out here. I don't need you draped over me like a cheap suit again." We all chuckled, recalling the incident at Emily's house four years ago that guaranteed each of us went to the prom without a date.

I went in to take care of their baby. At least one thing was different from the old days: it was no longer a sweaty job over hot electrical parts. The boys had themselves a raised floor now, with air circulating fans ensuring the room was a constant sixty-six degrees.

After five and a half hours of trial, error, and the invention of new and exciting patterns of curse words, I was finished. The interface screen goes with a welcoming, mellow sepia tone.

Now it was time to have a little fun with the boys.

"Well, that's it. I fixed it. I guarantee you will never have that problem again."

Dwayne and Posey looked at me in the same awestruck way. They simultaneously pushed their glasses up on their noses.

"No way!" said Dwayne. "We tried everything from—"

"— reconfiguring the operating system to tightening the external BIOS exchange!" Posey finished seamlessly. They were like one creepy four-legged geek.

"There is one piece of hardware that is compatible with all Windows devices," I told them. They gawked at me expectantly.

"Gentlemen, all Microsoft Windows devices are one hundred percent compatible with a Stanley Hammer!"
