Eccentrics Galore

“I can’t believe what I just saw,” Jacob said as he came in the door from work.

“What did you see?” asked Fawn his wife, before kissing him hello.

“A man with dog in a baby stroller, a cat on a leash and a ferret on his shoulder.”

“Oh, you mean Nic Knickers.”

“You know him?”

“I see him downtown. Those pets all do tricks you know. He makes money for pet food and such that way. Then there’s Ida and Rose.”

“Who are Ida and Rose?” Jacob wondered as he went to wash up for dinner.

“Conjoined twins. They seem to be in their sixties, but they are so bubbly and lively you’d never know it if you didn’t see them. Apparently, they used to do commercial voice-overs. Two for the price of one, I think.”

“Then there’s Stiltz Stiletto,” Jacob said as he sat down to eat.

“What is he? Some kind of circus performer? I saw him at the last Canada Day Parade.”

“Nope, he’s a little person. But you never see him without his stilts. He loves to be so tall, he can’t resist wearing them.”

“I can understand that” Fawn said as she passed her husband the potatoes.

“For such a small town, we seem to have more than our share of eccentrics,” Jacob said just before he began to eat.

“Oh, by the way, I’ve invited a couple of those oddballs to supper tomorrow night,” Jacob said as he helped clear the table.

“Why would you do that?” Fawn wondered.

“Well, they’ve been asking,”

“Who’s been asking? Bertha the bag lady, Babs the bird lady...”

“Who are those two,” Jacob interjected, aghast.

“Nobody, I made them up,” Fawn said.

“Good, because our mothers might not be as broad minded as we are.”
