You kept to your hiding place watching in fear. You did your best not to move or make a sound. The cats had lost this fight and the best you could do was try to make it to the next fight. You just hoped that you had escaped notice. You were not so lucky.
Suddenly, you felt something pinch the tip of your tail and you were dragged out from beneath the crate you had hidden under. You suddenly found yourself as eye level with a squirrel who was examining your tiny furred body. He held a pair of tweezers in one paw that was currently clamped around your tail before producing a test tube with his other paw and dropping you into it. Thankfully the fall didn't hurt as you landed on solid glass. The only upside to being this small was that you didn't make enough of an impact when falling down to hurt yourself.
You looked up just in time to see the cork go over the test tube leaving you trapped inside.
"Beautiful!" The squirrel holding your test tube spoke. She seemed to be in charge. She was dressed in only a lab coat and goggles as she observed the other squirrels round up your remaining cat allies. "Everything has gone according to plan." She looked down at you. "Oh you really should consider yourselves lucky, today you're helping further the cause of science!"
"Seriously?" For a brief moment you forgot to be afraid and just managed to cock an eyebrow at her as you stared through the glass of the test tube.
"Oh you cats and your little enemies the wolves have always been so silly!" The squirrel said. "But your petty wars served as the perfect grounds for experiments! Did you know the plans for your little pet project were stolen? I bet you didn't! The cats thought they had stolen the blueprints from the wolves! The wolves found an almost identical set of blueprints they thought they had stolen from the cats! In reality, it was all from us! Both weapons fired off and worked exactly as they're supposed to!" The squirrel grinned. "Does that give you solace? Knowing that just like you now at their own headquarters all the wolves have been similarly shrunken?"
You banged your hands on the side of the test tube. Okay, sure it was nice to know the wolves got what was coming to them, but not even a wolf deserved to be a prisoner of war to the squirrels! And cats certainly didn't deserve it!
"Oh but I bet you're wondering how we got here so fast without risking being shrunk ourselves." The squirrel continued.
"No not really." You muttered. "But I don't think you can actually hear me and I suspect you're the type that likes to hear themselves talk."
"The weapons can target someone based on their genetic coding." The squirrel explained. "That means when it went off only cats shrunk. Any squirrels, other animals or even inanimate objects in range of its effects were completely unaffected!"
"Well..." You looked down at your naked body and then out across the room where your discarded clothing was. "I suppose that explains some things."
"So now, every single cat and wolf on this entire planet, shrunk to the size of insects in an instant! And they all did it to themselves! And now want to know what's next?"
"Probably some kind of crazy experiment..." You muttered to yourself as you sat down in the test tube with your legs crossed.
