I woke up to the beep beep beep of a vitals monitoring machine and slowly opened my eyes to find mom looking over me with a worried look on her face. "Jon, can you hear me?" she asked.
"Ask if the woman is okay." came a voice in my head.
"Huh?" I asked, confused.
"Jon, say something." said mom, moving her face closer. I could see she had been crying.
"Ask her if the woman is okay, Jon." came Grace's voice. "Do you want to get the riot act later?"
Finally understanding that grandma Grace was still with me and trying to help, I responded, "Is the woman okay?"
Mom gave me an odd look. "Woman?"
I nodded. "I heard a woman screaming, in the woods, on my way to school." I explained. "I ran to help and..."
Mom nodded. "You fell into the sink hole." she finished. "I told you those woods were dangerous. People have heard far worse sounds coming from it." she sighed. "No, the search teams did not find any woman, just you."
I teared up slightly. "I just wanted to help her." I said.
"I'm proud of you for that." said mom. she kissed my forehead. "We will speak no further of this, I'm just happy that you are still alive."
"For the most part, anyway." you thought.
Grace giggled inside your mind. "This is just the beginning, Jon." she said, in my thoughts. "You will find your life far more interesting from here on in."
