Shortly after dinner, Nate's dad, Mike, knocked on his son's door. "May I come in, son?" he asked.
"Uh, sure, Dad," Nate answered. He was pretty bored right now, anyway. All he was doing currently was sitting on his bed, throwing a piece of candy in the air before catching it again. "What's up?"
Mike walked in while rubbing his forehead a bit. "I just got a phone call from the office and...turns out I'm not getting that raise I was counting on, so..." He takes a deep breath. "It looks like we're not going to Disney World next month as planned. I'm sorry."
"What?!" Nate yelled out while clutching the candy in his hand and hitting the side of his bed. "Dammit! We were planning that for months! Why didn't you get the raise you were promised?"
"Well, it appears the budget has, as they said over the phone, "fluctuated" again," the father answered dejectedly and giving air quotes for his higher-ups' words. "Sorry, champ. Maybe we can go during Christmas..." He paused a bit before shaking his head. "Who am I kidding? Maybe we can go next summer. Just thought I'd let you all know personally. Are you okay?"
"I'm fine..." his son grumbled while staring at the candy in his hand. "It's okay, Dad. After all...there's always next year..." Mike gave Nate one last worried look before slowly closing the door.
"Dang..." Nate sighed to himself before popping the candy in his mouth. "And here I was actually looking forward to that trip. I wish we could all have our family vacation at Disney World. That's literally all I want out of this summer."
