The next day, Anakin and Qui-Gon arrived on Ilum and made their way to the cave. The trip there was uneventful.
"This is where we must part, padawan."
"You mean... I have to go in... alone?" Qui-Gon smiled.
"Yes. But do not be afraid, Anakin. Trust your instincts." Nevertheless, the boy hesitated.
"...Okay." Anakin steeled himself, then headed into the cave.

As Anakin concentrated on focusing the crystal, visions began to appear to him. Strange visions. Like the Sith from Tatooine. In the vision, the Sith insisted that he was the master that Anakin truly wanted. Other things appeared too, images designed to break his concentration. One of them almost succeeded. It was Padme, standing next to a man dressed in all black with shoulder-length curly hair and holding a baby in her arms. Anakin almost lost his focus, but managed to push the vision aside and complete the process. He walked back out to where Qui-Gon waited for him. Holding the lightsaber high over his head, Anakin thumbed the power switch and a brilliant green blade shot forth. Qui-Gon smiled at his apprentice and patted him on the shoulder.
"Well done, Anakin. You've taken a large step in your training today." The boy beamed from ear to ear as they made their way back to their ship.
