"Say, I'm starving." His hand awkwardly pulls away from yours as he looks at you for a moment, before looking back to the ground, as if in shame. "I don't want to take advantage of your hospitality, but..." The sound of his stomach growling interrupted, making it quite clear that he had been holding his hunger for a while. You look up with a bit of a smile, but his gaze is now planted firmly towards the ground. He just stands there for a moment before speaking up again. "So... Um... You know. Do you have anything available to eat?"
With a small laugh, you just grab his hand again, tugging him towards the kitchen. He's a little surprised, but he doesn't seem to put up much resistance as you bring him over while you speak. "Should at least have enough for a few days, yeah. Any requests? Or am I just gonna have to dump a bag of birdseed onto the floor or something?"
"You know I can eat most foods just fine, right?" He paused for a moment before sighing and shaking his head as you lead him to a table. He pulls out the seat and lets his forehead lightly tap against the table. "Your humor. Right."
"You were asking for it, you know!" You just smile as you open your pantry, glancing in. "Afraid all I've got for now is a few fruits. That should let you settle in okay until I can cook something a bit more filling." You just grab a couple of apples, giving them a loose throw at the table. One lands near his head, but the other bounces off his shoulder before falling into his lap. The sudden bump makes him dart up and look around for a moment. However, he smiles slight when he notices what hit him, picking up the apple and munching into it quietly.
"I might be a bit too jumpy, if an apple's gonna make me panic..." He looks right at it, his eyes a little curious as he munches it down. "Hope a bit of rest does me some good."
You decide to take out a couple of small pieces of meat, getting the heat started as you spare him a glance. "Really, though. You feeling okay now?"
"Good enough." He leans back in his chair, munching away and managing a small smile at you as he eat. He's a bit distracted by his food, and you half expect him to have finished before you started cooking. However, whenever you glance at him, he doesn't seem to be too focused on his food, even if he's staring at it when he takes a bite.
In fact, can see him staring at you between bites. You can't help but feel a little awkward knowing his gaze was still on you. You try to break the silence as you begin cooking. "So... Any plans for the day? I mean, your recovery's going okay, but you might want to nap or something. Wouldn't want you getting any worse and have all your feathers fall out the next day, or however you bird handle a few scratches."
He blinks a few times before shrugging your odd comment off. "Might be a good idea. It's been... an odd day." He keeps staring at you even as he thinks, it a little disconcerting when he gazes at you and beyond you in his thought. You snap your fingers a few times to try to wake him from his slight trance. He shakes his head a little, before speaking again. "Right... Definitely a little bit out of it." He finishes off the fruit as you grab a couple of plates, his eyes now meeting yours as he speaks again.
