The ravishing woman of your dreams thought about your proposal for another few moments. Finally she said, "No but if you wish to prove yourself then another arrangement can be made."
Your mood brightened. Finally a chance to prove yourself to the woman of your dreams. She picked up a manilla folder and flipped through it.
"Yes, this will be quite the test. I want you to kill to someone for me."
Hmm this could be difficult. Using magic to kill a mortal outside of self defense was against the seven laws of wizardry. The White Council sent its Wardens after warlocks (the term for law breaking mages) and they could be quite dangerous. You honestly thought you could take any Warden alive but they didn't like to show up one at a time. Well maybe the Captain could prove difficult and the stories told about Warden Dresden...
"Fear not my dear - it will not be a mortal that you hunt."
She handed your the folder and you began to look through it. You were going to fight a scion of an elder dragon. The elder dragon had long since been defeated in the middle ages however its spawn still lived. This creature was half dragon and half mortal. His natural form was probably that of a scaly large humanoid but the creature also had its father's gift for magic. Which meant that is disguised itself as a human when it suited him.
The creature went by the name Avaradex. The scion was a mercenary - he "owned" a clan of ghouls who followed him. He sold their services to other denizens of the magical world as cheap but plentiful muscle. Has base of operations was in southern Mexico and his services had been in high demand after the fall of the Red Court created a power vacuum. After reviewing the material you nod to the personification of beauty. "It shall be done Ms. Wraith."
She moved closer and stroked your cheek gently, "I think you will fail. But if not... we can talk of payments upon your return."
A wave of pleasure flooded your mind. The White Court were succubi, they fed on pleasure, sexual pleasure. They could manipulate lust quite easy and you just had had an extremely heavy dose of it. You swayed on your feet, fighting to stay upright. You had embarrassed yourself with your earlier fawning and would not collapse twitching with pleasure like a helpless fool. Laura returned to her desk - a clear dismissal and you left her office and then her estate.
Hmm kill Avaradex a half dragon 300 year old sorcerer with an army of ghouls at his beck and call. You flashed the guard a wolfish grin as you got into the cab. You would be back - and soon. Laura doubted your abilities. You were not a Warden. No one knew of your slaughter of the Red Court Vampires who attacked you. You were a relatively unknown wizard who had yet to make his mark on the world. Avaradex had made his mark. Laura expected you to die in your attempt. This didn't bother you because you weren't going to die. You were going to succeed. Your only concern was how to actually do it.
Should you do it safely and effectively? Assassinate the creature with minimal risk? Or should you trumpet your power to the world, utterly destroy the clan of ghouls and then smash the scion to pieces in open combat. You were cocky but you weren't stupid and the second option bordered a bit on stupid. Then again you would risk anything to impress Laura Raith...
