In the days since the President’s address Aaron and his dad discuss the implications it will have on their future.
A year ago this would have never happened. Then again a year ago things were much different. Half the world’s population hadn’t been wiped out yet. The months since then had seen the population reduce even more due to wars, suicide, murders, accidents, and just plain natural causes. It’s widely believed that to maintain some semblance of order the governments of the world have been lying about how close the human race is to extinction. Most of the world’s economies have been decimated. Civil war has broken out in a lot of places. Here in the United States martial law has been effect for nearly a year.
The Emergency Powers Act has allowed the President to serve a third term with no new elections announced. Most have seen this latest move to be a major overreach of power. It’s been officially called the Human Species Recovery Act. Most though have called it the Bitch Act. The few demonstrations that have been attempted against it have quickly been squashed. Those involved were arrested and moved to the front of the line. The conversions have been scheduled to start next week for them. It doesn’t really make a difference to most since they will still be required to serve out their sentence. In addition to the conversion they will also be inseminated. The government is turning criminals, or anyone they call a criminal into breeding stock.
As Aaron and his dad drive through town they look around. The streets still have some life on them, but not like before. Aaron is pulled from his thoughts as his dad pulls into the parking lot of the post office. As for the past few days he pulls the mail out of the box and starts flipping through it looking for the letter that will change Aaron’s life. Aaron's dad lets out a sigh of relief. The letter isn't there, this week.
