Wards ignited on the exits trying to trap the elder vampire who prepared for combat. Even after all the centuries, humans could still surprise him on occasion especially when he let his arrogance at his own power put himself in danger. He had assumed that the King had some honor and would keep his word, he should have realized how little his fellow respected honor. Honor was like an inside joke for nobles that they let the little people believe were true.
The odds were against him for getting out of here but they were planning to capture him, most likely for his blood. Blood from an ancient vampire could keep a person young and strong forever as long as you could keep milking the source so he needed to plan for his escape after he was captured. Taking out a few key people would make things much easier.
King Emeril was a very tempting target but that was what told him not to target him. He was likely to have many protections so he shadow traveled behind the head priest of the land. The priest didn’t realize what had happened until he saw his head tumbling to the ground as the vampire’s blade severed the head. Elliot hated the Church of Dar and all of the members of it because they were pawns of the King. As they were distracted the vampire cut his way through them as he planned his next move.
He could see several of the Crimson Tigers but he couldn’t be sure who would be used to guard him and he didn’t see the Archmage but he did see the apprentice of the grand mage who looked terrified by the events occurring around him. The man was a bookworm with a talent for wards and rituals that required precision but quick battle magic was a skill he was lacking. Several of his deadly launched at the man who seemed stunned he had been hit and collapsed before he realized he had actually been killed.
Astra the Huntress’s whip wrapped around the neck of the vampire and started to drain him of escape. Elliot decided on a last act of defiance before he was taken to prison by this army of warriors. His gaze took hold of the Crimson Tiger’s mind and made a command to it as the clerics lashed bindings upon him. Astra pulled a dagger from its sheath and slammed it home into her cadet’s throat. Her niece stared, stunned by her Aunt slaying her, never seeing the control return to her beloved relative. The cries of pain from Astra drowned out the laughter of Elliot at the success of his paying back his old friend for this betrayal. She had promised him he would be free to leave after this meeting and she had believed her. He wondered if she thought the reward for the betrayal of someone who trusted her was worth killing her sister’s child.
It had been a dangerous move to anger her so much as he would soon be at her mercy as the spells and prayers brought him low but it had been worth it for the vampire. He had trusted few over the years because of past wrongs were done to him but Astra and he had been close from years of fighting side by side. He looked on the sobbing woman with blazing eyes and she hoped she knew that he wasn’t done with her. Revenge was a passion for many an immortal creature as it helped to pass the time and he was no exception. He would see her suffer more before his time on this world ended.
