You sighed seeing Theresa open the door to her bedroom. It had already been changed to suit her new gender for the next six months. She sobbed slightly as she walked in with her head down. "I bet dad never made any mistakes in his youth." Grimly, she muttered.
You winced hearing that and walked to James' bedroom where you found him working on a laptop computer at his desk. You quietly knocked to which he waved you in as a response. "Tex, err, Theresa begged me to talk to dad about changing her back to normal." Worried, you said. "I'm not sure what to do."
"I would not advise you to talk to father about this matter so soon after his decision had been made." Calmly, James said. "You know as well as the rest of us that he does not make any decisions lightly."
"Dad has made mistakes too." Wincing, you pointed out.
"That is true." Turning to you, James said. "He has also taken the heat for all of those mistakes with his head held high without a single word of complaint." He sighed then added, "Jessica, your heart is in the right place but you need to understand that great power demands great responsibility. Do you know what would have happened if he had not reversed the event Tex placed into motion?"
You shook your head. "No. What would have happened?"
"Either or both you and Tex would have ceased to exist." Darkly, James said. "The serum was the first part of a twin joining event that would have created a person made out of the two of you combined. It is highly forbidden as it is extremely unstable."
Why would Tex, I mean Theresa try something like that?!" Taken back, you demanded.
"Such a joining would have increased his powers ten fold even after the two of you had separated." Serious, James replied. "It would have benefited you as well, if successful. However..."
"What?" Worried, you asked.
James shook his head. "One mistake in doing this would have resulted in one person being formed out of both your memories and core beliefs mixed together." Gravely, he said. "You and Tex would have died as a result and a stranger would have taken both of your places."
You gasped at that to which James added, "Mad science can be fun, dear sister but make no mistake! It is a powerful tool, not a toy to be trifled with!"
As you left James' bedroom, you wondered what to do.
