Sabrina had fallen asleep with her head resting uncomfortably against the stones. She was chilled and ached from sitting in the same position for an extended period. The only thing that brought her to sleepy wakefulness was the chatter of the squirrels flying and scampering above her, and the hail of acorns being pelted at her. She scratched her head where the netting was fastened to her tresses. The scrolls were correct. When she touched her hair, she could see future events. In this case, it was a huntsman approaching rapidly.
Sabrina clicked the gold bands at her ankles. She noted the highest branch that would support her weight and within a moment had transgressed several feet and ten feet off the ground. The woodland creatures were seeking cover in the various hidey holes and brush that they could find.
Sabrina wrinkled her nose. How could one person give off such a stench? As surreptitiously as possible, she moved a cloth over her nose to block the foulness emanating from the huntsman.
The huntsman dropped his crossbow as he approached the stone structure. He recalled it as a chimney, now it looked more like a sacred cache. His band would be sorely disappointed that they were not the first to discover the trove of valued items. He turned in a complete circle and caught the scent of woman wafting on the breeze. Whoever she was, she was close.
He examined the stonework more closely. Running his finger over the mantle, his fingers drifted over a strand of long dark hair. As he held it up to the sunrays he could see it curl and reflect the light of the sun. He could also tell where the maiden had secreted herself and the valued treasures she had close to her person. He would not be able to win an honest battle against this one, but fairness was not his strong suit.
He took his pouch from his leather waistband into which he deposited the newest treasure for safekeeping. His brethren would be pleased that he knew the identity of the new Seer. They would have to be a little more careful in capturing this Seer.
