After leaving Rob and Claire, confident that they'd be working as they should, Liz made her way to another aisle to check up on another couple of employees. Meanwhile, at the front of the store, Elizabeth clicked over to the exit and opened the doors for her superior Emma, who had dropped by with her family. "Hey love." Elizabeth greeted the older woman, then smiled at her husband Kyle and 14-year old daughter Alice.
"Just dropping off some instructions for tomorrow." Emma said, producing a pile of papers from her purse. She then walked over to the help desk, followed by Elizabeth, while her husband and daughter just sat down on a steel, red bench by the exit doors. Alice though, couldn't sit still for long, and was soon wandering.
"So you're off tomorrow, right?" Elizabeth asked Emma, wanting to confirm.
"Yes, my first day in a while." Emma nodded, chuckling.
Elizabeth glanced over to Emma's husband for a moment, who was messing with his phone, and she whispered to Emma. "You're husband is cute by the way, nice catch." Came the compliment.
"Yeah, he's a sweetheart, thanks. But like all men, he can be a pain sometimes." Emma replied.
"Good job we're hardened to it hmm?" Elizabeth chuckled, causing Emma to smile too. The two managers then discussed the work plans for tomorrow, both they and the other staff oblivious to the locks on the doors sealing in and disappearing. Not only that, the windows gained what looked like a coating of frost that blocked the daylight. The windows were noticed by Alice, of all people.
"Er... mum, the windows look funny." The girl spoke up, drawing Emma's attention to the windows, and Elizabeth's too.
Both women frowned. "It can't have turned that cold, surely." Elizabeth muttered, trying to see through the nearest window. She then strode over to the doors to try and open them, only to find the lock mechanism had completely disappeared. "What the hell?"
"What's wrong?" Emma asked, walking over to join her.
"Can someone nick an entire lock?" Elizabeth asked, sounding incredulous. "I mean... we can't get out." She shrugged, scratching her head.
Emma looked to her right as Aaron appeared from one of the aisles carrying some boxes. "Aaron, could you run upstairs and check the windows and the other fire exits please." She told him, eliciting a grumble. He did as he was told however, disappearing upstairs. And when he returned moments later, Aaron's face wore an unusual perplexed expression. He shrugged and gestured with his arms, which told his superiors that every other window and door was sealed too.
"What's going on here?" Elizabeth whispered to Emma.
Emma just remained silent, not having a clue, while her husband suddenly started complaining about losing the signal on his phone.
