Dauphin's eyes, now glowing faintly from the elevated Raav, rose to meet the gaze of the leader. "Your last chance," she growled, making a supreme effort to reason through the violent rage that was consuming her. "Throw down your weapons and I might just show you some mercy."
The leader took measure of her, smiling derisively at the set expression on her face. He barked a command to his remaining subordinates in the guttural language of Cardac. "Khal vit Khalak," he said, gesturing to either side of Dauphin's semicircle.
This creature was no fool. He had taken Dauphin's measure and was ready to counter her deadly skill by making good use of his numerical advantage.
Two of the creatures began edging to Dauphin's left side, two more were flanking to her right. Dauphin knew that the creatures would not be reasoned with. Raising her fingers to her mouth, Dauphin blew a shrill whistle.
In a blur of motion the simbilliants were attacking, this time with the discipline of a well trained fighting force. The leader, in a position of relative safety, was directing their movements. She felt a Glaive bite into shoulder from behind even as she scored a blow against one of the creatures before her. But she was confident. The calculating leader had failed to account for the faelan.
Sheriza came in a flash. Before they knew what had hit them, the winged steed had trampled two more of her assailants.
