Jason dropped Ben onto Ron's beach towel, and then started backing away slowly, not taking his eyes off Ben. Ben watched him, not moving an inch as long as he was still in Jason's sight, so as not to prompt Jason's return. When Jason was finally about ten feet away, he turned and started back toward his car. Ben didn't know how much time he had before Jason or Ron returned, so he had to act quickly.
He scanned the area around him. There were other people on the beach, but none of them very close by. He might be able to reach someone who could help him, though.
Several yards to his right, he saw a young boy of about sixteen lying on the beach, assumedly watching his younger brother who was right beside him working on a rather large sand-castle.
Even farther to his left, he saw a young man, also lying on the beach. He recognized this man, though he didn't really know him. He couldn't remember his name, but he had been three years ahead of him in school, and had already graduated. He might be the best option to get help from, being older, but then, he was considerably farther away than the younger boy.
Ben knew he had to make a decision, and he had to do it fast, lest he be stuck with the dreaded "door #3": Ron... and Jason's less-than desirably fantasy of Ron crushing Ben beneath his bare foot...
So, without a second thought, Ben decided. He would go to...
