The shrunken scientist knew if he waited, he would have a good chance of contacting the giants and getting their help in restoring his size.
But, he didn't trust the odds. The giant dog could snap its jaws around his small body and finish him off before either of the giants had a clue that he wasn't some rodent.
He didn't have any choice as he saw the situation. He ran back into the dubious safety of the mousehole at the base of the wall.
Outside, he heard the dog sniffing at the entrance. Then, he heard the muffled voices of the giants.
"That should do it."
And he heard some sort of noise just outside the hole. He tensed, ready to try to dodge aside, but nothing entered.
He heard footsteps walk across the lab...followed by silence.
He waited. And waited a while longer.
He decided to dare a peek outside into the lab.
But, as he neared the exit, his eyes widened. An enormous mousetrap had been placed squarely in front of the hole. There was no way out without making his way across the deadly trap.
